1.推薦人與被推薦人的相識(shí)、關(guān)系
在留學(xué)申請(qǐng)推薦信中,一般在第一段不晚于第二段一定要說明推薦人與被推薦人的關(guān)系。這樣,評(píng)委們就可以一眼看出這封推薦信是來自申請(qǐng)者的老師、雇主還是朋友、同事。這部分要寫得簡(jiǎn)潔,達(dá)到表明推薦人身份以及與被推薦人的關(guān)系即可。對(duì)于很有背景的、頭銜很多的推薦人,在這段只能選擇最重要的一個(gè)頭銜來寫。
2.在校期間學(xué)習(xí)/學(xué)術(shù)方面的推薦內(nèi)容
介紹被推薦人在學(xué)習(xí)和工作方面的能力是推薦信的核心內(nèi)容,也是國(guó)外教授們重點(diǎn)閱讀的部分。

我國(guó)的留學(xué)申請(qǐng)者所提供的推薦信目前普遍存在以下問題:
1.用盡所有表現(xiàn)人類美德、才華和優(yōu)秀的形容詞,卻沒有一個(gè)具體例證。我們都知道“事實(shí)勝于雄辯”,但我們給外國(guó)人看的推薦信上卻偏偏是反其道而行之。
2.總把申請(qǐng)者吹成一個(gè)大師,讓人難以置信。許多推薦人 “特別地欽佩” 他們的學(xué)生,“一輩子也沒有碰上這樣的天才”。
3.內(nèi)容千篇一律,讓人一看就是抄的。幾乎每一篇推薦信都有這樣的描述:課堂上所有別的學(xué)生都無法回答某個(gè)問題,只有這位天才站起來侃侃而談,“顯示了深厚的功底和創(chuàng)造力。” 可是沒有一位申請(qǐng)者說得出來當(dāng)時(shí)到底談?wù)摰氖鞘裁丛掝}。
4.沒有正確地選擇推薦者。作為推薦者一般應(yīng)該具備如下幾個(gè)條件。一是必須要有比被推薦者更高職位或更多的學(xué)識(shí),這樣才有能力和資格來評(píng)判被推薦者。另外一個(gè)必不可少的條件是,推薦者必須有機(jī)會(huì)了解被推薦者。所以合適的推薦人應(yīng)該是教過你或指導(dǎo)過你的教授,或者是工作單位中的頂頭上司。
5.寫作時(shí)馬虎和草率。許多申請(qǐng)者一口氣給自己寫三封推薦信(一般要求是三封),然后讓三個(gè)教授簽字。這樣,不僅內(nèi)容相同、語氣類似,用詞也差不多,甚至語法和拼寫錯(cuò)誤也一模一樣,更有甚者,打印的字體也是分毫不差。
