Truancy
Recently, I heard news in the 21st newspaper that all the students in one class in Fudan University played truancy just because a famous star named Liang Chaowei visited their school for his newly-born movie. The news caused a hit discussion about truancy which happens constantly in university. Truancy means that skipping classes without professors' permission, which is absolutely banned in all universities.
What causes truancy so popular in university? There are various reasons for it. On the one hand, the students complain that classes, especially selective classes, are so boring that it is a little bit wasting their valuable time to attend that kind of class. Besides, students are busy dealing their own business and sometime students want to have a good rest in stead of attending unattractive classes. Furthermore, it is not difficult to pass exams without attending the stuffy classes. On the other hand, teachers are not able to make their classes vivid and interesting. What's worse, they sometimes are not responsible for their classes. For example, some teachers seldom call the roll. And at the end of the term, they would tell important points of the exam to students. In addition to these, schools are not strict with students who play truant, that is to say, the mechanism of forbidding truancy is not perfectly. In order to solve the problem of truancy, students, teachers and schools must be effectively educated to take actions to forbid the phenomenon to happen.
Firstly, for students, they should be educated from high school by their head-teachers that they should not put all their eggs in one basket such as focus merely on taking part in activities. As people are all aware of the fact that
head-teachers play an essential rule in students’ thoughts along with students’ general impression of universities. Apart from that, head-teachers really have a lot of time to stay together and communicate with their students, which allow head-teachers very easily to educate young students that truancy must be abandoned. Besides, students ought to be educated through their college teachers as well. It is those college students who really have a lot to do with college students. They can teach their students through classes that every class has its reason to be opened, which is of no doubt a piece of cake for college teachers, as what they are doing do not waste too much of their teaching time, on the contrary, it will help teachers gain popularity from those students, which is surely highly feasible.
Then, college teachers should also be educated. College teachers should be taught that it is their responsibility to make sure that their classes are full of students. Otherwise, they fail to obey the school rule which deserves teachers calling a roll during classes. In addition, students skip their classes is only to show that their classes are boring, or maybe that it is themselves lacking humor or knowledge which really calls for their attention to their teaching abilities. And this virtually can be done by the regular meeting for college teaches easily.
However, it is hard to change students’personality.although some teachers might have the ability to made it. That must be very difficult. And the schools’ courses are limited, students always complained that they have no choices.this situation is hard to change. Our educational system still have a long way to go .we have to admit that it is not perfect today.
In sight of these details, it is clear that the phenomenon of truancy are not only caused by students but also schools or teachers. For the sake of solving this problem,it is essential for schools、teachers and students to work together. Only in this way, this problem could be solved realistically and effectively.

Skipping Classes on College Campus
In colleges and universities, the phenomenon of students’ skipping classes is not unusual. There are often some students who skip those classes for feeling unwell or other private reasons. Besides, still some studen
ts don’t go to class without any reason but for they don’t want to。
There are two main reasons for college students’ skipping classes. First, compared with in middle school, students have more freedom in college. It depends more on one student’s consciousness whether he will attend the class. So those students lacking self-discipline begin to skip classes. Second, some teachers’ lectures could not attract students’ interests so that some students would rather skip classes to study what they are interested in。
For whatever reasons, skipping classes does bring negative effects on students’ study. Therefore, it is necessary to take some effective measures to reduce this phenomenon. On the one hand, the school and teachers should make students realize the negative effects of skipping classes and enhance their consciousness of attending the class. On the other hand, teachers have to improve their teaching quality to attract students’ interests in the courses. Only in this way can the phenomenon of skipping classes be reduced as soon as possible。

Some people may believe that going to classes should be optional, but I disagree. I don't understand how university students can expect to learn anything if they don't attend classes. Personal experience can help people learn about themselves and the world outside the classroom, but when it comes to learning about academic subjects, students need to be in class.
In class they receive the benefit of the teacher's knowledge. The best teachers do more than just go over the material in the class textbook. They draw their students into discussion of the material. They present opposing points of view. They schedule guest speakers to come, give the students additional information, or show documentary films on the subject.
Also, attending classes on any subject teaches more than just facts. It teaches students how to learn, how to absorb information and then apply what they've learned to other situations. Their teacher is the best one to help them with these skills. They can't learn them just by reading the textbook.
Going to class also teaches students how to work with the other members
of the class. Many times students will be given group assignments. This is different from what they did in secondary school. Here they're with people from different backgrounds and experiences. In this situation, they learn how to handle working with people different from themselves to achieve a common goal.
Going to class also teaches students responsibility and discipline. Having to be at a particular place at a particular time prepares themselves for getting a job. Being at a place on time with an assignment completed prepares them for a career.
In short, by going to class, students learn more than just information from the teacher. They also learn how to learn, how to work with others, and how to work responsibly. These are not optional skills in life, so attending classes should not be optional in college.
