  雅思大作文題目:垃圾社會(huì)

Ours is a throw-away society strongly influenced by consumerism as we value convenienceover environmental protection. Even though we are environmentally conscious to someextent, we do not appear to be serious enough in taking measures to reduce consumption, letalone repairing and re-using old things instead of buying new ones. Much is known about whatis happening whereas little is being done to effectively prevent the serious situation frombecoming worse.

The causes of the development of the "throw-away society" are clear, so are its effects on theenvironment. We throw away out of convenience because societal conventions have usconstantly move on to the next new fad or technology. For example, we are dumping largequantities of thrash, such as plastic bags and diapers that can pollute the environment.Likewise, we are discarding televisions, cell phones, computers and other plastics in exchangeof new ones that unsurprisingly will become our future garbage. It is as if a product weredesigned or intended on purpose to fail or become less desirable over time, only to be thrownaway after a certain amount of use. So much so, we are filling the environment with morerubbish than we can possibly dispose of, and as a result pollution is the price we are payingfor the popular culture of consumerism in the age of mass production.

Nevertheless, there are no ready solutions to consumerism-related problems due mainly tothe fact that the "throw-away" habits die hard, especially when often it could be more costly torepair old products than to buy new ones. Consequently, although many people have a criticalview of over-consumption and excessive production of short-lived items, few people areactually able to resist the systematic attempts of business to make us wasteful as well asdebt-ridden and permanently discontented individuals. To relieve the environmental impacts,we pretend to believe that one ideal solution should rest on educating consumers tovoluntarily do "positive" buying--recycled and re-used. Without a doubt, this might be nothingbut wishful thinking since such a measure is easier said than done in a well-to-do society, imagining that only extreme poverty could perhaps stop the "throw-away" trend. Fortunately, the good news is that there exist some kinds of technological know-how that may kindle thehope of finding a "green" solution, commonly called Waste-To-Energy (WTE) plants. Of course,it remains to be seen how efficiently those WTE plants can reduce waste volume and alsocontribute to resource recovery, thereby protecting the environment.

What with education and what with technology, it is expected that more could be done tocombat the key problems in the "throw-away society". To be sure, environmental awarenessalone is not enough to spare our planet from being further damaged if we do not change thatconsumer lifestyle which is not doing any favor to the environment. In a society graduallybeing used to obsessive consumerism, the cruel reality is that too many people now preferconvenience to environmental protection, while too few measures are likely to becomeeffective anytime soon.

  雅思大作文題目:垃圾成因及如何減少

I think it is true that in almost every countrytoday each household and family produces a largeamount of waste every week. Most of this rubbishcomes from the packaging from the things we buy, such as processed food. But even if we buy freshfood without packaging, we still produce rubbishfrom the plastic bags used everywhere to carryshopping home.

The reason why we have so much packaging is that we consume so much more on a dailybasis than families did in the past. Convenience is also very important in modern life, so we buypackaged or canned food that can be transported from long distances and stored until we needit, first in the supermarket, and then at home.

However, the amount of waste produced is also a result of our tendency to use somethingonce and throw it away. We forget that even the cheapest plastic bag has used up valuableresources and energy to produce. We also forget that it is a source of pollution and difficultto dispose of.

I think, therefore, that governments need to raise this awareness in the general public.Children can be educated about environmental issues at school, but adults need to take action.Governments can encourage such action by putting taxes on packaging, such as plastic bags,by providing recycling services and by fining households and shops that do not attempt torecycle their waste.

With the political will, such measures could really reduce the amount of rubbish weproduce. Certainly nobody wants to see our resources used up and our planet poisoned bywaste.

  雅思大作文題目:動(dòng)物是人類(lèi)最好的朋友

We often say that animals are our best friends. However, in real life, we human beings are often veryselfish. Sometimes, we often betray this friendshipby torturing and even sacrificing the lives of our “friends” for certain selfish reasons.Vivisection, or animal testing, is one of the selfish behaviors that we frequently show.

First of all, I’d like to say that animals have feelings, thoughts and dignity like men. Bothscientific researches and life experience have long proved these to us. A knife cut on any part ofour body would incur sharp pain. Facing death that is imposed on us, we would be terrified outof our wits. Being humiliated for no justified reason, we would think of death. When have weever realized that animals have the same feeling as they are treated the same way?

Some people may say, without vivisection, there would not have had so many scientificdiscoveries. Yes, it sounds all reasonable. Yes, many a scientific finding was achieved by animalexperimentation. But, who dare say that without vivisection, the world would stop movingforward? I’m afraid no one dares say this, for human society will always keep moving forwardand many scientific findings are simply a matter of time.

Admittedly, not all animal experimentations are cruel. Some simple and pain-free experiments can benefitboth mankind and other animals. For instance, someefforts which aim at increasing the group number ofsome endangered species can provide opportunitiesfor them to thrive again on the earth so that theycan share with mankind this beautiful world. Suchkind of experiments should be encouraged.

We can not change the past. We only have the present and the future. What is gone is gone, including those animals that had suffered great pains and even sacrificed their precious lives forthe scientific and technological progress of mankind. However, we should bear in mind that whilewe are thinking about our own benefits, we should also have other animals in mind.
