  Eagle in a Storm 風(fēng)雨中的雄鷹

Do you know that an eagle knows when a storm is approaching long before it breaks?

The eagle will fly to some high spot and wait for the winds to come。When the storm hits,it sets its wings so that the wind will pick it up and lift it above the storm. While the storm rages(v.猛吹,肆虐)below, the eagle is soaring(v.

The eagle does not escape the storm. It simply uses mhe storm and rises on the winds that bring the storm.

When the storms of life come upon US—and all of US will experience them—we can rise above them by setting our minds and belief toward our goals。

Our goals enable(v.使能夠,給予能力)us to ride the winds of the storm that bring sickness, tragedy.failure, and disappointment i13I our lives. Thus we can soar above the storm like the eagles.

Remember,it is not the burdens of life that weigh us down;it is how we handle them.

Keep the Trolls Away from your Goals

There is a type of crab that cannot be caught—it is agile (敏捷的)and clever enough to get out of any crab trap. And yet, these crabs are caught by the thousands every day, thanks to a particular human trait (特點(diǎn)) they possess.

The trap is a wire cage with a hole at the top. Bait is placed in the cage, and the cage is lowered into the water. One crab comes along, enters the cage, and begins munching on the bait. A second crab joins him. A third...

Eventually, however, all the bait is gone. The crabs could easily climb up the side of the cage and through the hole, but they do not. They stay in the cage. Other crabs come along and join them—long after the bait is gone. And more.

Should one of the crabs realize there is no further reason to stay in the trap and attempt to leave, the other crabs will gang up on him and stop him. They will repeatedly pull him off the side of the cage. If he is persistent, the others will tear off his claws to keep him from climbing. If he persists still, they will kill him.

The crabs—by force of the majority—stay together in the cage. The cage is hauled up, and it’s dinner time on the pier.

The chief difference between these crabs and humans is that these crabs live in water and humans on land.

Anyone who has a dream—one that might get them out of what they perceive to be a trap— had best beware of the fellow inhabitants of the trap.

The human crabs (we call them trolls) do not usually use physical force—although they are certainly not above it. They generally don’t need it, however. They have more effective methods at hand, and in mouth—doubt, ridicule (嘲笑), sarcasm (挖苦), humiliation, and dozens of others not listed in our dictionary.

The point is to manage to keep the trolls away from your goals.

  Sure You Can 相信自己

First you had to learn to stand: a process involving constantly falling down, then getting back up. You laughed sometimes and cried at other times. Somehow there was a determination and conviction that you would succeed, no matter what.

After much practice you finally figure out how to balance yourself, a necessary requirement. You enjoyed this new feeling of poweryou’d stand everywhere you could—in your crib, by the couch.

It was a joyous time——you did it! You were in control of you. Now—the next step—walking. You’d seen others do it—it didn’t look that hardjust move your legs while you were standing. Wrong - more complexity than you ever imagined. More frustration than anyone should have to deal with. But you tried, again and again and again until you figured this out.

If people caught you walking, they applauded, they laughed, it was, Oh my God, look at what he’s/she’s doing".This encouragement fueled you on; it raised your self-confidence. But how many times did you attempt when no one was watching, when no one was cheering?

You couldn’t wait for someone to encourage you to take the next steps. You learned how to encourage yourself.

If we could only remember this about ourselves in today’s day.

Remember that we can do anything we set our minds to if we are willing to go through the process, just like when we learned to walk.We don’t need to wait for others to encourage us; we need to encourage ourselves.

If you’ve forgotten how to do this, or feel like your self-esteem needs a boost, take a short journey back through your life look at your accomplishments, no matter if they were large or small you met the challenge and figured out a way to succeed. While going back, look for the little child you once were.Thank them for never giving up. As you wave goodbye, remember they will never give up on you. They have believed in you all of your life!

Now you need to believe in you too!

Remember, today is the best day of your life because yesterday was and tomorrow may only be.
