World No Tobacco Day
World No Tobacco Day started from April 7th, 1988. In 1989, World Health Organization changed this day into May 31. The essence of world no tobacco day is to broadcast the idea that smoking is bad for people's health and make more people realize the harm of the tobacco. Every year there is a theme about this day, and the theme of this year is raising tobacco tax rates.
As we all know, tobacco is the raw material of cigarette. According to the least data, 1700 billion cigarettes are being produced in China last year, more than one million people die of smoking in 2013. Smoking has a close relation with cancers. People who smoke for years are easier to have liver cancer, lung cancer, throat cancer than those not. Smoking is not only bad for people’s health, but also pollutes the air. Those who take in second-hand smoke will also suffer from breathing infections. On the surface, smoking seems to be a personal thing, it has nothing to do with the whole country, but actually, it will cost a lot of burden of the family, even the society.
The government should do something to make the public realize the harm of smoking. The places such as schools, cinemas, restaurants, railway stations must not be smoked. People should get rid the bad habit of smoke. This is not only for themselves, but also for the whole world.
Why students learn English?
The students in China start to learn English when they are in primary school. In many provinces, English are taught as second language. Some people may ask why we need to learn English, what we do that for? Well, in my humble opinion, I think we need English for various reasons.
First of all, English is indispensable if we want to enter the university. English teaching in some schools are quite important. Some teachers even use English instead of Chinese to teach their students. Secondly, most of students will need English to read English books or novels. While a few of them will go abroad to study, then English will become a tool to communicate with foreigners. Last but not least, as this world gets smaller, English has become more useful than ever. There are a lot of songs singing in English, if we know how to speak English, we can know about the the lyrics all about. What’s more, sometimes we need to say English to communicate with others. Through English, we know about what happen all around the world.
To sum up, learning English is very useful as well as important in our life. To master another language is better than learning nothing at all.
The Shame of Plagiarism
In order to get high marks, some students figure out all the ways, the worse situation is to plagiarize other student’s hard-working. Plagiarism is a big mistake, the teachers are always emphasizing it, but the lazy students go against the rule, they want to pass assessment easily. These students should be shameful about themselves.
On the one hand, plagiarizing means the lack of respect of other students’ hard-working. Students need to spend many hours and put a lot of effort to finish the paper; the outcome means their wisdom and paid, just as the old saying, “no pain, no gain”. While the lazy students destroy other students’ effort, they just get the job done without their own thinking; they can even get the more high marks. This is very unfair; every student should finish the task in their own wisdom, showing respect to each other.
On the other hand, the students who are used to plagiarism will end up hurting themselves. If the students’ such behavior is found by others, they will get bad record in their files, which means they will have problem on trust issues, it is hard for them to find a job. If they are lucky to not be found, they still learn nothing, they lack of ability.
In conclusion, plagiarism is a shameful behavior; students should learn things by their own minds.
